12 Nisan Perşembe günü, iş çıkışı, arıcılık faaliyetlerindeki yegane yancım Enver'le, Bursa'ya, Kenan Gişan Ağabey'imizin işyerine gittik.

Together with my beekeeping company Enver, we went to Bursa to visit Kenan Gişan, who is a beekeeping master.

Sağolsun bizi kapıda karşıladı. Bu arada belirtelim, Kenan Ağabey çok yetenekli bir torna ustası.
He met us at the door of his workshop. By the way i have to mention that Kenan is a very talented lathe turner.

İçeri girer girmez gözümüze yeni yapılan stoklama kovanı takıldı.Kenan Ağabey'in stoklama kovanını yabani kuşlar delmiş.
As soon as we entered his office we noticed the newly built stock hive. His previous stock hive was damaged by wild birds.

Ayrıca bir miktar çerçeve delme aleti de yapmış.
Also he has built some frame punching devices.

Sağdaki resmi Kenan Ağabey'in ustalık belgesinden çektim. Yanyana getirilince, yılların nasılda acımasız olduğu ortaya çıkıyor. Saçlar beyazlamış, çizgiler ne kadar derin.... kim bilir belki bir on yıl sonra bende böyle olacağım.
The picture on the right is taken from Kenan's Craftsman Diploma. When we put the pictures side by side, we can clearly see how brutal the years are. The hair is now white - gray and the lines are deeper.... Who knows may be in ten years i will be the same.

Bir kahvenin 40 yıl hatırı var derler, biz Kenan Ağabey'in iş yerinde birer kahve içtik, demek ki 2052 yılına kadar hatır borçluyuz Kenan Ağabey'e.   :-)
Kenan Gişan served us coffe in his office. There is a Turkish proverb; "A cup of coffee has a memory of forty years", meaning "A single cup of coffee can bring friendships lasting many years." So i guess our friendship with Kenan Gişan will at least last till 2052.  :-)

Bu yıl ana arı üretmeyi deneyeceğim.Bu yüzdende benim de bir stoklama kovanı edinmem lazım.
This year i will try to breed queens. Therefore i have to keep a stock hive as well.

Eğer kovana konacak arıların petek kabartmasını beklemem gerekirse çok uzun zaman alacak. İyisi mi eldeki eski petekleri keserek içine monte etmek.Önce eski bir sır alma bıçağı ısıtılır.
If i wait for the bees to raise foundation, it will take quitea long time. It will be much better to cut some already drawn combs and fix them in the small frames.First an old uncapping knife is heated.

Sonra petek sıcak bıçakla çerçeve büyüklüğünde kesilir.
Then the comb is cut in the size of the frame by the help of the hot knife.

Çerçeveler hazır. / The frames are ready.
13 Nisan 2012 - Cuma / 13th April 2012 - Friday
Ertesi sabah Enver'in bitirdiği stoklama kovanını almaya gittim, birde ne görelim, bahçede Enver'in tavuklar bizim kovanın tadına bakmışlar.
The next morning i went to get the stock hive, that Enver completed. But we saw that his chickens had bitten the styrophore hive.

 

Neyse sonra tamir ederiz dedik. Biz içine çerçeveleri dizelim.
We decided to repair it later on and placed the frames inside the hive.

Yolumun üzerinde Taşlık köyünden arıcı arkadaş Mehmet Işık'ın yanına uğradım. Bir başka arıcı arkadaş olan Mahmut Kurnaz'da ordaymış.
On my way, I dropped in a beekeeper friend Mehmet Işık's apiary in Taşlık village. An other beekeper friend Mahmut Kurnaz was there, too.

Çay içtik ve bir süre sohbet ettik.
We had tea and chatted for some time.

Arılığa geldim, heryer otlanmış. Bir ara bu otları tırpanla kessem çok iyi olacak.
I came to my apiary in the afternoon. Everywhere is covered with herbs. I should trim these herbs with my motor scythe.

Geçenlerde diktiğimiz ağaçlar uyanmaya başlamış.
The trees that i planted sometime ago started to wake up.

Bu yıl kolonilerde neşe yok. Ama yapabileceğimiz birşeyde yok.
This year the colonies are not in good condition. But there is nothing i can do as well.

Aralık unutulmuş bir çerçeve, arılar hemen dalak örmüş.
I forgot to unite two frames and bees built a piece of comb between two frames.

 

Arılar polen getirse de havalar hala serin.
Though the bees bring pollen, the weather is still cool.

Yağmurlar hala devam ediyor. / It still rains.

Arabayı arılıkta bırakarak dere kenarına indim. Su epey yüksek. Küçük çaplı bir sel var bile denebilir.
I left the car near the apiary and walked down to the river. The water is quite high. This can be named as a small scale flood.

 Varroa ile mücadele için formik asit almak amacıyla komşu ilçe Mustafakemalpaşa'ya gittim. Gitmişken de arıcı arkadaşlar görmemek olmaz. (Soldan Sağa: Mehmet Demir, Yakup Uzun, İlhan Kesendere, Alper Gürman, Erkan Türkey)

Bugün formik asit yapma günü. Malzemeler hazır, formik asit, koruyucu eldiven, boş bir şişe, ölçek ve maske.

Today is the day to prepare some formic acid. The materials are ready. Formic acid, protective gloves, an empty bottle, a scale and mask.
