Çok kar yağdı - It snowed a lot

Yesterday (1.2.2012) my little daughter completed her 3 months and now she in her 4th month. She is more stronger, more active. In these days she is making rehersals to speak and giving out weird sounds. When i check the two picture, i see that the time is passing so fast..

Dün sabah yoğun bir kar yağışıyla uyandık. Ve nerdeyse tüm gün kar yağdı. Bursa'nın önde gelen arıcıların Sebahattin Yılmaz Ağabey bazı işleri nedeniyle Karacabey'e gelmiş. Telefon açtı, buluştuk, konuştuk, sohbet ettik.
Yesterday morning we woke up with heavy snow. And it snowed almost all day. A beekeeper friend, Sebahattin Yılmaz from Bursa, had come to Karacabey. He called me and we met and chatted.
In the afternoon the weather was warmer and the snow started to melt.
Fakat dün gece hava ayazdı ve eriyen tüm kar tekrar dondu, buz oldu.
But there was a frost last night and all the melting snow suddenly turned into ice.
Bu sabah yine yoğun kar yağışıyla uyandık. (Evimin balkonundan görünen manzara)
We woke up with heavy snow again. (The scenery from the balcony of my home)
Arkadaşım Ertan Gündem'i aradım, beraber arıları kontrol etmeye karar verdik.
I called Ertan Gündem, my friend who is also a beekeeper like me. We decided to go and check the hives. It doesn't snow so often here in Karacabey, therefore i haven't fastened the snow chains for so long. So I forgot how to fasten the chains. After a few tries, i was able to fasten them.
The road to Yeniköy was covered with snow. Though the road was scraped by a grader, the snow covered the road again.
Our first stop is The Kindir Farm... My friend Ertan has purchased some bees some time ago.... we were going to check his bees. In fact the road in front of us led to the farm but because of the snow the road was not clear. We have to cautious because there were ditches on the sides of the road.
Kındır Çiftliği,... karda...
The Kindir Farm,... in the blizzard...
Çiftlikte 6 çoban köpeği bizi karşıladı. Hepsi serbest, arabanın etrafında havlıyorlardı. Yanımdaki arkadaşım Ertan daha cesurdu, ben korkumdan arabadan inemezken o indi. Ondan cesaret alıp bende indim. Elimizde çapa ve kürek vardı. Eğer olmasa hepsi birden saldıracaktı. Eminim.

6 shepherd dogs met us at the farm. They were not tied to anywhere and they were barking and wandering round the car. My friend Ertan was much more braver than me. Since i was afraid i preferred to stay in the car, but he got off the car. He encouraged me and i got off the car too. Ertan was carrying a hoe and i was carrying a spade. If we hadn't carried such things, i'm sure that all six dogs would have attacked us. As we were leaving the farm they chased us for some time and kept barking. And we had at least a kilometer to walk ahead.
Yürüdükçe kar neredeyse 50 cm.ye ulaştı.
As we walked the snow reached almost to 50 cm.
Ve en sonunda kovanlara ulaştık.
And finally the hives.
Çoğu kara gömülmüştü.
Many of them were covered with snow.
Kovanların önlerini temizledik,..
We cleaned the entrances of the hives...
Burada işimiz bitti, zor zahmet tekrar ana yola çıktık ve benim arılığa gittik.
After cleaning the entrances of the hives, we could hardly drive back to the main road and drove to my apiary.
Manzara çok farklı değildi...
The scenery was not so different...
Arılara su için koyduğumuz kaplar tamamen donmuştu. Sanırım bugün hava sıcaklığı -5 derece civarıydı.
The cut plastic demijohns, that worked as a water source for the bees, were frozen. I guess the temperature was round -5 degrees centigrate today.
Artık geri dönme zamanı.
It is time to go back.
Geri dönüş yolu üzerindeki Devleme Mezrası...Çeşnigir'e bağlı...
Devleme Hamlet, on our way back.. bound to Çeşngir Village...
Eski değirmen...
The old water mill...
Akçasurluk Köyü,... yol nerdeyse yarı...
Akçasurluk Village,... in the middle of the route to my apiary...
Yolun sonu,... sağ salim tekrar Karacabey'deyiz...
End of the route,.... We are back in Karacabey again, without any accidents...

Karacabey'de Varroa Bilgilendirme Semineri

Dönem sonu geldi, okullarda işler çok yoğun, son yazılılardı, notları hesaplamaktı derken uzun süre blog yazamadım.
As i know i am a teacher and it is the end pf first term. Therefore i was very busy with the school work and was away from the blog for sometime.

After attending to Halil Bilen's seminar on effective methods in coping with varroa destructor, we decided to organize a seminar for the beekeepers in Karacabey.
The most appropriate dates were 13th - 14 th January and the seminar was announced to beekeepers.
Ev sahibi olarak erkenden gittik. Hemen arkamızdan gelenler de vardı. (Mustafa Ay, Bekir Arsan, Hasan Şen, Halit Yaldız ve şuan isimlerini anımsayamadığım şehir dışından gelen diğer iki arıcı)
As the host i came early. As soon as i arrived, beekeepers from neighbouring towns started to come. (Mustafa Ay, Bekir Arsan, Hasan Şen, Halit Yaldız and two other beekeepers whose names i can't remember now.)
Zaman geçtikçe sayı iyice arttı ve ilk oturduğumuz küçük salon yeterli olmadı.
As minutes passed the interest for the seminar grew and the small conference hall was not enough for such crowded audience, so we moved to the larger hall.
Halil Bilen hocamız seminerine hazırlık yapıyor.
Beekeeping Master Halil Bilen is getting ready for the seminar.
Mustafa Ay, a dear beekeeper friend, was the one to help me the most in organising this seminar.
Dakikalar ilerledikçe salon daha da kalabalıklaşmaya başladı.
As the minutes passed it started to become more and more crowded.

Seminer Karacabey İlçe Tarım Müdürü Erdoğan Ceylan'ın konuşması ile başlıyor.
The seminar starts with an opening speech from Erdoğan Ceylan, Karacabey's director of agriculture and livestock.

Atatürk'ün salona yazılmış güzel bir sözü dikkatimi çekti.
One of Atatürk's sayings draw my attention. [It is the Turkish Nation that taught agriculture and craft to man kind]
Gönen'den arıcı arkadaşlar (Abdurrahim Sarık, Ahmet Akdağ, Adnan Elçi)
Beekeepers from Gönen (Abdurrahim Sarık, Ahmet Akdağ, Adnan Elçi)
Ve birinci gecenin sonu...
And the end of the first night...
On the second day, in the afternoon, at about 14:00, there were beekeeper guests from Bursa (Zafer Cura, Kenan Gişan, Mehmet Gençünal)
Yaklaşık yarım saat sonra Halil Bilen aramıza katıldı.
About half an hour later Halil Bilen joined us.
Biz içeride sohbet ederken dışarıda kar yağışı oldukça hızlandı.
As we were chatting, it started to snow heavier.
Öğretmek, öğretmek, öğretmek .... her zaman, her yerde,...
 Teaching, teaching, teaching... anytime, anywhere,...
After the dinner beekeeping friends from Gönen joined our chat.
Sıcak birşeyler içildi, salona geçildi...
Hot beverages were drunk and we left for the second part of the seminar...
Kar yağışı artmasına rağmen, seminere ilgi fazlaydı.
Though it was raining heavily, the interest for the seminar was high.

Chatting and joking among friends just before the seminar.
İkinci gece seminerin ilk kısmının özetiyle başladı.
The second night started with a short summary of the first part.
Sigara içenler için bir mola
 A break for the smokers
 Molada koyu sohbetler
Sincere chats at the break

İkinci yarı...
The second half ...
An the end. I hope this seminar was useful for the beekeepers of my hometown, Karacabey.

Not: Hala varroa seminer notlarının özetini yayımlamadığımın farkındayım, yukarıda yazdığım gibi çok meşguldüm. En kısa sürede temize çekip yayımlayacağım.

P.S.: I am aware that i haven't published my varroa seminar notes, as i mentioned above i was really busy recently. I will share it as soon as i can
